Michael Adam (age 50), a farmer, his wife Katharina Barbara (age 50), and sons (Hans, age 11; Michael, age 8) are recorded on the 1767 census of Merkel in Household No. 3. An older son, Christoph, is recorded in Household No. 37. They had arrived in Merkel on 28 August 1766.
The 1767 census records that the Adam family came from the German village of Neuburg [?] in Württemberg. [There is a village named Neuenbürg about 10 kilometers west of Engelsbrand.]
