Biography

Father Emmeram (born Johann) Kausler was born 21 May 1851 in Kirchenpingarten, Bavaria (Germany) to Paul Kausler & Rosina Barth. He attended the St. Fidelis Seminary in Pennsylvania and was ordained in 1890 into the Capuchin Order. His younger brother Aloysius was also a Capuchin friar and two of his sisters were nuns with the Sisters of Divine Providence.

Between 1898 and 1908, he designed and oversaw the construction of numerous churches, friaries, and parish buildings, including St. Anthony (Schoenchen), St. Fidelis Friary (Victoria), St. Francis Friary (Munjor), St. Mary Friary (Marienthal), St. Ann (Walker), Assumption of Mary (Herndon), and Sacred Heart (Emmeram, Kansas) — the town itself eventually taking his name.

He served St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas.

Father Kausler died 29 January 1922 in Munjor and is buried in the St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor.
